1. Introduction

Hope Dealers (“Hope Dealers,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a faith-based nonprofit organization based in and operating out of California. We partner with local nonprofits, charities, churches, and community organizations to fight food insecurity, deliver practical help, and share the hope found in Jesus Christ with the overlooked, the hurting, and the hungry in our city.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about visitors to our website located at https://www.hopedlrs.org (the “Site”), and about the choices and rights available to you regarding that information. It applies to donors, volunteers, partner organizations, individuals requesting assistance, and general visitors to the Site.

By using the Site, making a donation, submitting a volunteer or partnership application, or requesting help through the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Site.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in a few different ways depending on how you interact with our Site.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Depending on which forms or features you use on the Site, we may collect:

  • Contact information: full name, email address, phone number, mailing/home address
  • Donation information: donation amount, frequency, and related transaction details processed through our third-party payment processor(s) (see Section 5)
  • Volunteer and partnership information: name, contact details, areas of interest, availability, organizational affiliation, and any information you voluntarily share in application or interest forms
  • Requests for assistance: name, contact information, household or need-related details, and any other information you choose to share with us in order to request help or services
  • Communications: information you provide when you contact us directly via email, phone, or contact forms, including the content of your messages

We consider names, email addresses, phone numbers, and home addresses to be sensitive personal information, and we take extra care in how this data is collected, stored, and used, as described throughout this Policy.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with the Site, including:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked, and referring/exit pages
  • Date and time of visits and general usage patterns

This information is collected only in connection with your use of our website (we do not track you across other websites or apps), and is gathered using cookies and similar technologies described in Section 4.

2.3 Information from Payment Processing

When you make a donation through our Site, your payment is processed by PushPay and/or other secure, third-party payment gateways. We do not directly collect or store full payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or other full financial account credentials — these are collected and processed directly by our payment processor(s) in accordance with their own privacy policies and applicable security standards (such as PCI-DSS). We may receive limited transaction information from our payment processors (such as donation amount, date, and donor contact information) for recordkeeping, tax receipting, and donor communication purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for purposes including:

  • Processing and acknowledging donations, and issuing donation/tax receipts
  • Responding to and fulfilling requests for assistance
  • Coordinating with volunteers and partner organizations
  • Communicating with you about our programs, events, needs in the community, and ways to get involved
  • Sending general and administrative communications (e.g., confirmations, updates related to a request or application)
  • Sending marketing and promotional communications, such as newsletters, campaign updates, and fundraising appeals (with the ability to opt out at any time — see Section 8)
  • Operating, maintaining, and improving the Site, including diagnosing technical issues
  • Understanding how visitors use our Site so we can improve content, navigation, and user experience
  • Maintaining the security and integrity of our Site and preventing fraud or abuse
  • Complying with legal obligations, including recordkeeping required of nonprofit organizations

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

4. Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking Technologies

Our Site uses cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies solely to understand how visitors use our Site and to improve it. We only track activity that occurs on our own website — we do not use these tools to track your activity across other, unrelated websites or apps.

We currently use the following third-party tools:

  • Google Analytics — to understand site traffic, visitor behavior, and how people find and use our Site.
  • Microsoft Clarity — to understand user experience through tools such as session behavior analysis and aggregated usage patterns, helping us improve site design and usability.

These providers may set their own cookies and collect information such as your IP address, browser and device information, and pages visited, in accordance with their own privacy policies:

Managing Cookies

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies, delete existing cookies, or receive a notification before a cookie is placed. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain parts of the Site.

You may also opt out of Google Analytics tracking specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Managing Cookies

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. Because there is no accepted industry standard for how to respond to DNT signals, our Site does not currently respond to DNT signals.

5. Third-Party Payment Processors

Donations made through our Site are processed by PushPay and/or other secure third-party payment gateways we may use from time to time. These processors have their own privacy policies and security practices governing the handling of your payment information. We encourage you to review PushPay’s privacy policy directly for details on how they collect, use, and protect your payment data.

We are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of third-party payment processors, though we work only with reputable, industry-standard providers.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell or share (as defined under California law, see Section 9) your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we do not use your information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: With trusted vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as payment processing (PushPay and similar gateways), website hosting, email/communications platforms, and analytics providers (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity). These providers are only permitted to use your information to perform services for us and are contractually obligated to protect your information.
  • Partner organizations, where applicable: If you submit a request for assistance or express interest in volunteering/partnering, we may share relevant information with a local nonprofit, church, or community partner organization directly involved in fulfilling that specific request or opportunity, so that they can coordinate services or involvement with you.
  • Legal requirements: If required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or comply with a legal or regulatory requirement.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, reorganization, or transfer of some or all of our assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality arrangements.
  • With your consent: In any other circumstances where you have given us explicit permission to share your information.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:

  • To maintain accurate donor and financial records for accounting, tax, and legal compliance purposes
  • To maintain volunteer and partner records for coordination and historical purposes
  • To respond to and follow up on requests for assistance
  • To comply with legal, regulatory, or reporting obligations applicable to nonprofit organizations

When personal information is no longer needed for these purposes, we will take reasonable steps to securely delete, destroy, or de-identify it, except where we are required to retain it longer by law.

8. Your Choices and Communication Preferences

Marketing Communications

If you receive marketing or promotional emails from us (such as newsletters or fundraising appeals), you may opt out at any time by:

  • Clicking the “unsubscribe” link included in any marketing email, or
  • Contacting us directly using the information in Section 12

Please note that even if you opt out of marketing communications, we may still send you administrative or transactional communications related to a donation, request for assistance, or volunteer/partnership relationship (e.g., donation receipts, responses to your inquiries).

Text/SMS Communications

If we offer SMS/text communications, you may opt out at any time by replying “STOP” to any text message you receive from us, or by contacting us directly.

9. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

Because Hope Dealers operates in California, we are committed to honoring the privacy rights described under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), to the extent applicable, as well as general principles of transparency and consumer control that we believe are simply the right thing to do — regardless of whether the CCPA/CPRA technically applies to a nonprofit organization of our size.

Subject to certain exceptions, California residents have the right to:

  • Right to Know/Access — Request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom it has been shared.
  • Right to Delete — Request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions (e.g., information we are required to retain for tax, legal, or accounting purposes).
  • Right to Correct — Request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing — We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, so there is nothing to opt out of. If this ever changes, we will update this Policy and provide a clear mechanism to opt out.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — We do not use sensitive personal information (such as your address or phone number) for any purpose beyond what is necessary to provide our services and communicate with you.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you, deny services, charge different rates, or provide a lesser level of service because you exercised any of your privacy rights.

How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, you may contact us using the information in Section 12. We will need to verify your identity before processing certain requests (such as requests to access or delete specific personal information) by confirming information you have previously provided to us, such as your name and email address. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, subject to our ability to verify that authorization.

We will respond to verifiable requests within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 45 days, with the possibility of a 45-day extension when reasonably necessary).

Shine the Light Law

Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (“Shine the Light” law), California residents may request information once a year regarding our disclosure of certain categories of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. As stated above, we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact us using the information in Section 12, and we will promptly delete that information.

11. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. This includes relying on reputable, secure third-party payment processors (such as PushPay) for handling donation and payment information, and limiting internal access to personal information to those who need it to perform their roles.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us immediately.

13. Third-Party Links

Our Site may contain links to third-party websites, including partner nonprofit organizations, churches, and PushPay’s donation platform. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party sites, and we encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as a notice on our Site).
